    Why read this?

NoSQL systems were developed in response to a gradual increase in the volume of data and the frequency in which data is stored, accessed, and modified. However, each NoSQL database has its own unique implementation and performance characteristics. When deploying in the cloud, these distinctions are crucial to identifying the optimal solution for a particular scenario.

This technical report evaluates Couchbase Capella, MongoDB Atlas, and Amazon DynamoDB in terms of latency and throughput under four workloads:

    • an update-heavy workload that simulates typical actions of an e-commerce solution user
    • a short-range scan workload that simulates threaded conversations
    • a query with a single filtering option that simulates a selection by field with pagination
    • a JOIN query with grouping and ordering that simulates a selection of complex child-parent relationships with categorization

The evaluation was conducted on three cluster configurations: 6, 9, and 18 nodes. For consistency, the Yahoo! Cloud Serving Benchmark was utilized. The results of the evaluation are supported by six diagrams.
