The project aims to improve developer experience for organizations running Kubernetes.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_59771\" style=\"width: 120px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Bernd-Krannich.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-59771\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Bernd-Krannich-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"110\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-59771\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-59771\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><small>Bernd Krannich<\/small><\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/bkrannich\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Bernd Krannich<\/a> of SAP shared a couple of documents that discuss possible <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1Hk19MkUOGQmP_dkoCwkogRQqlBwGE0Bpgr2U96JhW3I\/edit?usp=sharing\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">use cases<\/a> for cf-for-k8s in the future, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1X5AUpM0eK5z_4yWJk35HqrCFJRVjS7kRJsRxsf-7dsM\/edit?usp=sharing\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">known incompatibilities<\/a> with cf-deployment and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/cloud-foundry-advisory-board-meeting-jan-2020-kubecf-demo\/\">KubeCF<\/a>. Among other things, the documents break down a few scenarios that should be possible with the continued improvement of cf-for-k8s:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">separating the Cloud Foundry control plane from the apps<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">having multiple Kubernetes clusters running Cloud Foundry apps<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">running multiple control planes on Kubernetes clusters<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">hibernating the control plane<\/li>\n<li>changing the control plane persistency from Postgres to etcd<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;At SAP, we expect to run into quite a few cf-for-k8s deployments, which over time, people who are running Cloud Foundry on virtual machines will move toward to. Once we have feature parity, these new deployments can be good evolutionary steps to make it easier for us to operate and manage multiple environments. The primary idea here is different from what we have today, which is running the Cloud Foundry control plane and apps in the same Kubernetes cluster. The idea is separating those into different clusters.&#8221; \u2014Bernd Krannich, SAP<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The documents are still works in progress, and Bernd is looking for feedback from the community.<\/p>\n<p><small><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/cloudfoundry\/cf-for-k8s\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">cf-for-k8s GitHub repo<\/a><\/small><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"New_roles_for_Cloud_Foundry\"><\/span>New roles for Cloud Foundry<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_59781\" style=\"width: 120px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Stephan-Klevenz.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-59781\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Stephan-Klevenz-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"110\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-59781\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-59781\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><small>Stephan Klevenz<\/small><\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/sklevenz\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Stephan Klevenz<\/a> of SAP shared a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1isfsSWvF8xDU0G69k4MqB3o5c2vB0P3Vbi79W0yvqFQ\/edit\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">proposal<\/a> to create two new roles in Cloud Foundry to add fine-granular controls. According to Stephan, the proposal aims to fix two common problems shared by multiple Cloud Foundry users. First, it is easy to delete data by accident. These accidents take a lot of effort to fix and are very costly. Second, organizations running Cloud Foundry all have different models that dictate how they operate and run apps. The lack of a fine-grained control on authorizations leads to leakage of credentials and unauthorized access to sensitive data.<\/p>\n<p>The two new proposed roles are a <b>space application developer<\/b> and a <b>space operator<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>A <b>space application developer<\/b> will be able to perform all necessary operations on an app, as well as read, bind, and unbind service instances. Under this role, it will be impossible to create, update, or delete service instances.<\/p>\n<p>A <b>space operator<\/b> will be able to start, stop, and restart apps, as well as view life cycle events for an app and display action logs. Furthermore, the role is entitled to scaling apps, but restricted from displaying an application environment. In terms of working with service instances, the role will have the very same permissions as a space application developer.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;We need a powerful and flexible permission model. This was the goal with the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1PqPaZYvdsKzg-RuEerKypP4vPItk5iB0Q-rpFt8qugo\/edit\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">CF Permissions<\/a> project, but that ended in June. A minimal change to address customer concerns are to introduce two new roles to the Cloud Controller.&#8221; \u2014Stephan Klevenz, SAP<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Runtime_PMC\"><\/span>Runtime PMC<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_11430\" style=\"width: 120px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Eric-Malm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11430\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Eric-Malm-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"110\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-11430\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11430\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><small>Eric Malm<\/small><\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/eric-malm-a3554117\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Eric Malm<\/a> from VMware noted the following updates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The Release Integration team delivered <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/cloudfoundry\/cf-deployment\/releases\/tag\/v15.6.0\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">cf-deployment v15.6.0<\/a> and is soon to push <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/cloudfoundry\/cf-for-k8s\/releases\/tag\/v2.0.0\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">cf-for-k8s v2.0.0<\/a> live.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The KubeCF team is bumping dependencies and is working toward KubeCF v2.8.0.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The CAPI and Services API teams are continuing to close out the endpoints for <a href=\"http:\/\/v3-apidocs.cloudfoundry.org\/version\/3.93.0\/index.html#introduction\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Cloud Controller API v3<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/cloud-foundry-advisory-board-meeting-apr-2019-eirini-readiness\/\">Eirini<\/a> team is considering restoring its staging tasks due to incompatibility issues with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/cloud-foundry-advisory-board-meeting-apr-2020-paketo-buildpacks\/\">Paketo Buildpacks<\/a> and other Cloud Foundry buildpacks. They are also exploring component observability.<\/li>\n<li>The Diego team bumped to Golang v1.15.
