I was glad that the results of collaboration between Canonical, Pivotal, and Altoros (on Juju charms for Cloud Foundry) were presented at the event, so we had a lot to discuss.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/\u0421F-Summit-2014-Day3-MaaS.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/\u0421F-Summit-2014-Day3-MaaS.jpg\" alt=\"\u0421F-Summit-2014-Day3-MaaS\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24461\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>After deploying Cloud Foundry on Ubuntu Orange Box MaaS, we even pushed a couple of apps. A full-blown Cloud Foundry Juju deployment atop Canonical MaaS.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Keynotes\"><\/span>Keynotes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As for the summit itself, the last keynotes featured Philips, Pivotal, LDS Church, VMware, and other big names, however, I liked the session on the Diego project most. My notes are below.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\">The <strong>Morning Welcome<\/strong> with <strong>James Watters<\/strong>, VP of Product, Marketing, and Ecosystem for Cloud Foundry at Pivotal, and <strong>Andrew Clay Shafer<\/strong> of Parvus Captus was mostly about the Cloud Foundry Foundation.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\"><strong>Cloud = Application Enablement and Innovation \u2260 IaaS<\/strong> with <strong>Ken Owens<\/strong>, CTO, Cloud Services at Cisco: this keynote was about the art of building platforms out of loosely connected services. Cisco announced that their collaboration runs on Cloud Foundry.\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/CF-Summit-2014-Day3-Ken-Owens.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/CF-Summit-2014-Day3-Ken-Owens.jpg\" alt=\"CF-Summit-2014-Day3-Ken-Owens\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24465\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\">At the <strong>Commerce as a Service with Cloud Foundry<\/strong> keynote, <strong>Ren\u00e9 Welches<\/strong>, Product Owner, PaaS Cloud Foundry, at Hybris shared some details on how Cloud Foundry is used by Hybris. All of them were absolutely amazing.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Jeff Hobbs<\/strong>, CTO and VP of Engineering @ ActiveState, shared a Stackato PaaS Case Study:<strong> \u201cBuilding Stackato and Lessons Learned Using Cloud Foundry.\u201d<\/strong> From this session, its attendees could learn about the main things that differentiate Stackato from other PaaSes: Docker support, Sinatra, auto-scaling, high availability, and the fact that it is enterprise-ready.\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/CF-Summit-2014-Day3-Stackato.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/CF-Summit-2014-Day3-Stackato.jpg\" alt=\"CF-Summit-2014-Day3-Stackato\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24481\" \/><\/a><small>The new architecture of Stackato 3.0<\/small><\/center><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/hobbs\/stackato-cf-summit\">Here<\/a> you can find the slide deck by Jeff Hobbs.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\">\n<p><strong> Renat Khasanshyn<\/strong>, CEO @ Altoros, presented a case study, <strong>&#8220;Software-Defined Drug Delivery with Cloud Foundry and OpenStack.&#8221;<\/strong> The talk described how a leading healthcare company aims to save human lives using Cloud Foundry.<\/p>\n<p>Altoros used Cloud Foundry, Ubuntu OpenStack, and HP Moonshot to build a highly available and reliable system that takes advantage of technology to abstract infrastructure and drastically decrease the total cost of ownership. The four levels of HA built into Cloud Foundry and highly redundant components ensure that it works, even if there is no Internet connection.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/CF-Summit-2014-Day3-Renat-Khasanshyn.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/CF-Summit-2014-Day3-Renat-Khasanshyn.jpg\" alt=\"CF-Summit-2014-Day3-Renat-Khasanshyn\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24482\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIs the effect of Cloud Foundry significant? It is if human life matters to you.\u201d \u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/renatco\">@renatco<\/a><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This use case demonstrates how disruptive technology, such as PaaS and Cloud Foundry in particular, can transform the economics of entire industries by abstracting unnecessary workflows and cutting costs with open source.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 8px;\"><strong>.NET and Iron Foundry Incubation: It\u2019s Coming!<\/strong> by <strong>Jared Wray<\/strong>, CTO at CenturyLink Cloud, provided some updates on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/net-on-cloud-foundry-part-1-installation-on-windows-and-using-iron-foundry\/\">Iron Foundry<\/a>. As my colleague Vitaly Sedelnik found out the day before yesterday, they run on Windows Server 2012, using .NET 3.5\/4.0\/4.5. There&#8217;s still no ActiveDirectory support, but this is on their roadmap for 2014.
