Moreover, the company estimates the market will reach $14.8 billion in 2012. Among the reasons for such progress are:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>* the tough economy (ironically, yea?),<br \/>\n* better broadband,<br \/>\n* and a need to rapidly deploy software to meet a specific business need.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Gartner\u2019s research director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/sharon-mertz-516505\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Sharon Mertz<\/a> notes that on-demand services have gained popularity and matured, diminishing the widespread <em>&#8220;initial concerns over security, response time, and service availability.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/gartner-2008-saas-adoption-survey-v2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/gartner-2008-saas-adoption-survey-v2-1024x727.png\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-62190\" \/><\/a><small>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.customerthink.com\/files2\/AR_Gartner_Saas_Ent.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Image credit<\/a>)<\/small><\/center><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SaaS_CRM_best_practices\"><\/span>SaaS CRM best practices<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Figures and studies from Forrester confirm these trends. I recently came across <a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkworld.com\/article\/2280254\/5-best-practices-for-implementing-saas-crm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an article<\/a> that named five best practices for implementing SaaS CRM applications.<\/p>\n<p>Considering the recent growth of interest toward SaaS applications in general, no wonder \u201ca late 2007 survey of 1,017 software IT decision-makers at North American and European enterprises found that SaaS adoption is growing at double-digit rates.\u201d (See May 2008 Forrester\u2019s \u201cBest Practices: The Smart Way To Implement CRM\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forrester.com\/report\/Best-Practices-The-Smart-Way-To-Implement-CRM-SaaS-Solutions\/RES45139?docid=45139\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_62183\" style=\"width: 120px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/forrester-william-band.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62183\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/forrester-william-band-150x150.jpg\" width=\"110\" height=\"110\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-62183\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-62183\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><small>William Band<\/small><\/p><\/div>\n<p>As popular as SaaS is and as much as it\u2019s being adopted, there are still pitfalls. To avoid these, Forrester analysts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/william-band-6111b3\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">William Band<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/pmarston\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Marston<\/a> identify the following best practices for companies to keep in mind:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>1. Build the right business case<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Establish the right support structure<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If all SaaS vendors cleaned up these five areas of their company\u2019s life cycle, the customers would be much happier, and the corporate world in general would become even more SaaSy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SugarCRM_as_a_premier_open-source_CRM\"><\/span>SugarCRM as a premier open-source CRM<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>An AMR Research <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.com\/article\/276508\/customer-relationship-management-report-ranks-top-10-crm-vendors.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> says that the leading CRM vendors are SAP, Oracle, and Salesforce.com (by 2007 revenues). This includes all the delivery options (hosted, desktop, etc.)\u2014via a proprietary model.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The top five CRM vendors now own 46% of the entire market share.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"attachment_59742\" style=\"width: 120px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/david-sims-TMCnet.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-59742\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/david-sims-TMCnet.jpeg\" width=\"110\" class=\"size-full wp-image-59742\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-59742\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><small>David Sims<\/small><\/p><\/div>\n<p>However, open-source software as a service is also entering the enterprise arena. Among SaaS-based CRM systems, SugarCRM is one of the top open-source offerings, with 4 million downloads, 470 product extensions, and total funding of $46M (<a href=\"https:\/\/venturebeat.com\/2008\/02\/07\/sugarcrm-raises-20m-more-for-open-source-crm\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">source<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmcnet.com\/channels\/open-source-crm\/articles\/46086-sugarcrm-tipped-as-crm-saas-short-list-option.htm\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a>, TMCnet Contributing Editor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/davidlsims\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">David Sims<\/a> calls SugarCRM the &#8220;primary&#8221; open-source SaaS option and comments on Gartner&#8217;s forecasts mentioned earlier.
