Some of the common use cases that we&#8217;ve been thinking about include debugging locally or spinning up a Cloud Foundry instance as a way to begin application development in a Cloud Foundry environment if the rest of the network is locked down.&#8221; \u2014Samuel Dawson, Pivotal<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Samuel emphasized that <b>CF Dev<\/b> has improved since the last demonstration during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/cloud-foundry-advisory-board-meeting-mar-2018-cf-dev-demo\/\">March CAB call<\/a>. These improvements include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Users can now employ a state disk (Windows, Mac).<\/li>\n<li>Minimum RAM requirement is now 5 GB.<\/li>\n<li>Start time is now under 30 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Telemetry has been added.<\/li>\n<li>Insufficient memory warning has been added at the start.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>He added that the CF Dev team is &#8220;continuing to test this in other machines to see how small we can make that footprint, and how quickly we can get <b>CF Dev<\/b> up and running locally.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/CF-CAB-December-CF-Dev-comparison.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/CF-CAB-December-CF-Dev-comparison-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-40309\" \/><\/a><small>CF Dev start time and memory usage comparison<\/small><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Finally, Samuel listed some of the features that are currently being planned:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Linux support<\/li>\n<li>deploying and undeploying services while running <b>CF Dev<\/b><\/li>\n<li>binding local volume services to applications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><small><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/cloudfoundry-attic\/cfdev\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">CF Dev&#8217;s GitHub repo<\/a><\/small><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Runtime_PMC\"><\/span>Runtime PMC<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_11430\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Eric-Malm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11430\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Eric-Malm-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-11430\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-11430\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><small>Eric Malm<\/small><\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/eric-malm-a3554117\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Eric Malm<\/a> of Pivotal reported several runtime updates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The release integration team is preparing v7 of <code style=\"color: #222222; background-color: #e6e6e6; padding: 1px 2px;\">cf-deployment<\/code> for January.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The CAPI team is requesting beta feedback on zero-downtime deployments. They&#8217;re also finishing up adding labels and annotations in the Cloud Controller API.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The routing team has scaled up to 20,000 routes for the adoption of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/using-istio-to-unify-microservices-with-a-service-mesh-on-kubernetes\/\">Istio<\/a> Pilot and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/cloud-foundry-advisory-board-meeting-feb-2018-abacus-envoy-and-containerd\/\">Envoy<\/a> as a gateway proxy.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The container networking team is continuing work on dynamic egress rules as replacement for application security groups and transparent client-side load balancing via Envoy.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">CLI released v6.41.0 with stack assignment for buildpacks and internal domain creation.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The Garden-Windows team is replacing the versioned &#8220;windows2016&#8221; stack with just &#8220;windows.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The Loggregator team is progressing with  a new syslog agent.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/cloud-foundry-advisory-board-meeting-aug-2018-istio-and-eirini\/\">Eirini<\/a> team has passed an initial set of the core <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/cloudfoundry\/cf-acceptance-tests\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">CF Acceptance Tests<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The Persi team has added support for v1.0 of the Container Storage Interface.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The Diego team is finishing up efforts to improve efficiency of the droplet setup.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><small><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/cloudfoundry\/pmc-notes\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Runtime PMC&#8217;s GitHub repo<\/a><\/small><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"BOSH\"><\/span>BOSH<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_35741\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Frederic-Desbiens.jpe\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35741\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/Frederic-Desbiens-150x150.jpe\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-35741\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-35741\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><small>Frederic Desbiens<\/small><\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/fredericdesbiens\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Frederic Desbiens<\/a> of Pivotal noted that <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/voelzmo\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Marco Voelz<\/a> of SAP had <a href=\"https:\/\/lists.cloudfoundry.org\/g\/cf-bosh\/message\/2585\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> stepping down as BOSH Core Europe PM, but will remain as BOSH PMC lead. Frederic also mentioned that the BOSH <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1pa-d7aC707dK9vvZUYIu9iytYzM9oM8YK-0M4vTp1rA\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">vision and strategy document<\/a> was made public to provide visibility and to foster collaboration in the community. Finally, he followed up with a few more BOSH updates:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The Toronto team is working on implementing rotations for manifest-defined certificates. <\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">Drain life cycle improvements are in the planning stage.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">The San Francisco team is making improvements to DNS healthiness. The full schedule of the summit will be announced mid-January. Registrations are still open, and a registration code for contributors has been sent to the <a href=\"https:\/\/lists.cloudfoundry.org\/g\/cf-dev\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">cf-dev mailing list<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>She also commented on the success of the most recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudfoundry.org\/cloudfoundrydays\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Cloud Foundry Day<\/a>, which was held in Seattle on December 10.
