She represented the team responsible for Cloud Foundry Container Runtime (CFCR), members of which are located primarily in Dublin, with Urvashi in San Francisco and another team member in Portland.<\/p>\n<p>CFCR was originally called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/not-only-for-cloud-foundry-kubo-enables-kubernetes-deployments-with-bosh\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kubo<\/a> (a portmanteau of Kubernetes and BOSH), with the original mission \u201cto package Kubernetes into a BOSH release,\u201d Urvashi said. \u201cWe thought we were letting people install Kubernetes, but we were just one of many installers in the community,\u201d she added. \u201cAnd, by abstracting the BOSH layer, we were actually doing a disservice to BOSH developers who wanted to use Kubernetes. So, we decided to be more BOSH-native.\u201d Urvashi also noted the existence of some remaining technical debt from original efforts to abstract BOSH away from developers.<\/p>\n<p>The current activities include a continued focus on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pivotaltracker.com\/n\/projects\/2093412\/stories\/155998950\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BOSH-native experience<\/a> for developers, enabling secure clusters through <a href=\"https:\/\/kubernetes.io\/docs\/concepts\/policy\/pod-security-policy\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PodSecurityPolicy<\/a> and creating back-up and restore capabilities. According to info provided on CFCR&#8217;s GitHub repo, the back up takes an <code style=\"color: #222222; background-color: #e6e6e6; padding: 1px 2px;\">etcd<\/code> snapshot without interruptions to the cluster. For restore, it takes both the <code style=\"color: #222222; background-color: #e6e6e6; padding: 1px 2px;\">kube-apiserver<\/code> and <code style=\"color: #222222; background-color: #e6e6e6; padding: 1px 2px;\">etcd<\/code> offline to restore the cluster with the specified snapshot, as restore is a destructive operation that overwrites existing data on the cluster.<\/p>\n<p>The current efforts mean to provide functionality for multi-master Kubernetes setups in addition to a currently available single-master enablement. A CAB call of July 2018 also featured an update around Service Fabrik&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/cloud-foundry-advisory-board-meeting-july-2018-intro-to-shield\/\">fault-tolerance<\/a> capability.<\/p>\n<p>This time out, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/subhankarc\/?originalSubdomain=in\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Subhankar Chattopadhyay<\/a> went over the latest release\u2014Service Fabrik 2.0. He said key aspects of the release include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>reduced platform dependency by maintaining a minimal state in the broker<\/li>\n<li>integration of a new provisioner<\/li>\n<li>easy pluggability for monitoring and logging through an event-driven architecture<\/li>\n<li>a built-in back-up mechanism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Service Fabrik&#8217;s high-level architecture shows operators (whether BOSH, Docker, or something else) interacting API servers to reach the actual, consuming platforms (e.g., Cloud Foundry or Kubernetes).<\/p>\n<p><center><a <\/p>\n<p>Subhankar pointed out that new operators can be written in any language, \u201cenabling polyglot programming and in a way helping open-source contributions.\u201d He also said it is easy to integrate new components for additional functionality any particular developers and companies may want.<\/p>\n<p>A live demo showed how Service Fabrik can be spun up through <code style=\"color: href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/cloudfoundry\/cf-deployment\/commit\/bdb71d0279e031f50b42c2ab80ce1762d349414b\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bits service<\/a> release is being integrated into CF-Deployment.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">Asking for feedback about container networking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudfoundry.org\/blog\/polyglot-service-discovery-container-networking-cloud-foundry\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">polyglot service discovery<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-bottom: 6px;\">Cloud Controller&#8217;s changing buildpack model (<a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/cloudfoundry\/buildpacks-ci\/tree\/master\/tasks\" rel=\"noopener\"
