However, a possibility to use resources on demand and pay for the capacities that are actually used seemed rather attractive to many customers. So, recently, Joyent\u2014a leading IaaS provider\u2014partnered with Hortonworks and rolled out a cloud-based Hadoop offering.<\/p>\n<p>When preparing to deliver its Hadoop clusters, Joyent turned to Altoros to get independent evaluation of their system. The results showed that virtual Hadoop clusters can provide bare-metal performance with nearly a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkworld.com\/article\/2162974\/hadoop-goes-to-the-cloud.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">three times faster<\/a> disk input\/output speed compared to a similarly sized infrastructure from other vendors.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/renat-khasanshyn-joyent-hadoop-benchmarking.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/renat-khasanshyn-joyent-hadoop-benchmarking.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"614\" height=\"461\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34034\" \/><\/a><small>Ben Wen (Joyent) and Renat Khasanshyn (Altoros) at NoSQL Now! 2013<\/small><\/center><\/p>\n<p>At NoSQL Now! 2013, Altoros and Joyent conducted a <a href=\"http:\/\/nosql2013.dataversity.net\/sessionPop.cfm?confid=74&amp;proposalid=5536&amp;sthash.Gw53dGhw.mjjo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">workshop<\/a> based on this real-life case study.
