Many enterprises are now testing several clouds, in search of the ultimate mix for their organizations. I think of it as a <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/2016-in-review-a-varietal-cloud-and-the-paas-revival\/\">&#8220;varietal&#8221; cloud<\/a><\/em> rather than the popular term\u2014a <em>hybrid cloud<\/em>. Just two years ago, assumption were made that <em>PaaS<\/em> would be subsumed by infrastructure. However suddenly this year, the inevitability of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Moore's_law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Moore&#8217;s law<\/a> and some fresh thinking has put AI squarely in the center of much of enterprise IT. They were not against technology per se, but against unscrupulous use of it. Meanwhile, a corporate blockchain movement (i.e., <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/tag\/hyperledger\/\">Hyperledger<\/a><\/em>) is propagating solutions of a different sort. Much of it is unstructured, and in ways that grow ever more complex. As the networks to serve the devices grow, many cities are taking up the challenge of developing grids to encompass increasing numbers of services. It&#8217;s amazing to people who&#8217;ve been around a couple of decades or more to see IBM, Microsoft, and even SAP, among many others, to espouse the use of highly variegated tool sets for customer solutions. It&#8217;s time for everyone to stop trying to replicate Silicon Valley, as hundreds of regions throughout the world are now creating innovative solutions, whether for local use or broad enough to be adopted globally. It&#8217;s a marvelous thing to witness what people in China call \u5168\u7403\u521b\u65b0 (Qu\u00e1nqi\u00fa Chu\u00e0ngx\u012bn,  or &#8220;full world new creation&#8221;), what you call whatever resonates in your local language, and what I like to think of as ubiquitous progress.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/2016-2017-trends-global-innovation-is-number-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">More on the topic&#8230;<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Honorable_Mention_FinTech\"><\/span>Honorable Mention: FinTech<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>FinTech is taking London, New York, Singapore and other financial centers by storm. It didn&#8217;t quite make the Top 10 list because it seems to me to be a function of many of the other trends, rather than a primary driver itself.
