Firstly, five more members are now a part of the Foundation: Bosch, Acetti Software, Comcast, Hexad, and QiO. As for the Foundation residents, SAP has opened the first Dojo in Germany in Walldorf. <\/p>\n<p>And good news for enterprises, which now can enjoy a multi-cloud, serverless experience\u2014as Iron.io now supports Diego for workloads on Cloud Foundry. Favoring all things education, the Foundation also launches summit-style <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudfoundry.org\/events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cloud Foundry Days<\/a> across the Asia-Pacific region.<\/p>\n<p>Altoros joined the newsmakers\u2019 crowd and introduced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/introducing-cloud-foundry-cli-plugin-for-managing-predix-analytics-catalog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cloud Foundry CLI plugin<\/a> for managing Predix Analytics Catalog.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about the announcements delivered, read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudfoundry.org\/blog\/global-organizations-gather-to-discuss-iot-and-multi-cloud-strategies-at-cloud-foundry-summit-amid-strong-community-growth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the overview<\/a> posted by the Cloud Foundry Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Here_comes_the_Industrial_Internet_and_the_IoT\"><\/span>Here comes the Industrial Internet and the IoT<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>However, demonstrating the <em>raison d&#8217;etre<\/em> for the combined meeting, the Cloud Foundry Foundation&#8217;s newest member,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.qio.io\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> QiO<\/a>, is a UK-based company focused on industrial agility in the \u201cIndustry 4.0\u201d era. The company provides \u201canticipatory intelligence at a systemic scale through the fluent digitalization of design, manufacturing, operations, and supply chain.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Company Security Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/scotttaggart\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Scott Taggart<\/a> said \u201cCloud Foundry is a key part of our strategy. We (in fact) have a cloud-agnostic, cloud-native approach.\u201d The end result of the company&#8217;s mission is, of course, more efficient operations and opportunities for new revenues for its customers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/cfsummit-cloud-foundry-summit-europe-QiO-Scott-Taggart-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/cfsummit-cloud-foundry-summit-europe-QiO-Scott-Taggart-2.jpg\" alt=\"cfsummit cloud foundry summit europe QiO Scott Taggart 2\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16425\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Internet of Things (IoT) and the data analytics IoT deployments are part and parcel of this new industrial revolution, according to QiO, while noting there is a very large number of device types, data formats, and standards discussions. The company is taking an open approach to these challenges, saying it \u201cis very big on open source and using 70 different technologies\u201d in its initiatives.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThere is no single architecture for IoT. It is all about piecing things together.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2014Scott Taggart, QiO<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Docker running atop Cloud Foundry is in the mix, and the company is doing some work with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/tag\/hyperledger\/\">blockchain<\/a> technologies. &#8220;<em>We use blockchain by signing and verifying every other message from the end device<\/em>,&#8221; says Scott.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Open_platforms_and_foundations\"><\/span>Open platforms and foundations<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Speaking of open source, Eclipse Foundation Executive Director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/mikemilinkovich\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mike Milinkovich<\/a> spoke of current IoT-focused efforts to interact with the physical world and collect, exchange, and analyze data; and to bridge the physical world to the Internet via TCP, UDP, and MQTT. He noted that \u201cdevices should be as cheap as possible (albeit) very specialized\u201d and cited regulatory environments, particularly in Europe, as potential traps for successful deployments.<\/p>\n<p>Mike presented <a href=\"https:\/\/iot.eclipse.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Eclipse IoT<\/a>, &#8220;an open open source community aimed at building and promoting open source software and open collaboration models needed to create an Open Internet of Things.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to Mike, the Eclipse IoT community already numbers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2.2 million lines of code<\/li>\n<li>26 projects<\/li>\n<li>170+ developers<\/li>\n<li>110K monthly visitors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of the active Eclipse IoT users is Bosch, a newly added European member of the Cloud Foundry Foundation. The company also <a href=\"https:\/\/bosch.io\/newsroom\/news\/press-releases\/press-releases-68034.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">participates<\/a> in the Eclipse Foundation and recently <a href=\"https:\/\/bosch.io\/newsroom\/news\/press-releases\/press-releases-72832.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announced<\/a> its Bosch IoT Suite\u2014available as a PaaS.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/bosch-iot-platform-cloud-foundry-summit-europe-2016-cut.jpg\" alt=\"bosch-iot-platform-cloud-foundry-summit-europe-2016-cut\" width=\"468\" height=\"346\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16456\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, meeting attendees from Germany noted the increasing deployments of the Internet of Things (IoT) in their country, with Cloud Foundry serving as the platform.<\/p>\n<p>Some technical discussion ensued, focused on topics, such as the need for Cloud Foundry&#8217;s TCP route to support port sharing, missing UDP support, better integration with services, and container networking.<\/p>\n<p>In essence, the good news is that enterprises in Europe are taking Cloud Foundry seriously, but a tremendous amount of new work needs to be done to match developer expectations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/iot-sig-cloud-foundry-summit-europe-2016-cut.jpg\" alt=\"iot-sig-cloud-foundry-summit-europe-2016-cut\" width=\"480\" height=\"359\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16448\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Time_to_work_harder\"><\/span>Time to work harder<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The ISV meeting had 23 companies in attendance, with some questions focused on to what degree Cloud Foundry offers opportunities for the service market.
