It&#8217;s a broken system. But imagine you controlled your own identity and just gave organizations their required amount and not everything.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Hyperledger-July-19-London-Fireside-Chat-Blockchain-Ethereum-Olivier-Rouclox-Mark-Simpson-Paul-Ferris-Leda-Glyptis-Anish-Mohammed-Imogen-Garner-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Hyperledger-July-19-London-Fireside-Chat-Blockchain-Ethereum-Olivier-Rouclox-Mark-Simpson-Paul-Ferris-Leda-Glyptis-Anish-Mohammed-Imogen-Garner-1.jpg\" alt=\"Hyperledger July 19 London Fireside Chat Blockchain Ethereum Olivier Rouclox Mark Simpson Paul Ferris Leda Glyptis Anish Mohammed Imogen Garner 1\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15670\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/leda-glyptis-272492\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Leda Glyptis<\/a> said her immersion into blockchain began when she encountered the idea of self-regulating securities,  \u201cwith little backpacks saying you can&#8217;t touch it. So, there\u2019s been energy channeled into smart contracts, which is re-imagining of the way we do things.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The blockchain technology represents (an approach) that fundamentally redefines our value chain.&#8221; \u2014Leda Glyptis, Sapient Global Markets<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thinking along those lines, she also noted the reaction \u201ccould be fear or excitement. Nevertheless, he stressed that \u201cthis is not just a technical issue. What does it really mean not to have privacy, for a society not to have privacy?\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;What does it mean for a society not to have privacy?&#8221; \u2014Anish Mohammed, Lloyds Banking Group<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dynamism_vs_inertia\"><\/span>Dynamism vs. inertia<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/imogen-garner-7b4037a4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Imogen Garner<\/a> noted the dynamism of this technology. \u201cThis is a sphere of activity in which developments happen quickly. But then, law and policy makers don&#8217;t act so quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/olivierroucloux\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Olivier Roucloux<\/a> wondered whether the primary discussion should even be about blockchain or about things such as mobility, digitization, and changing customer behavior that may lead to the use of blockchain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is the real trigger for blockchain?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Hyperledger-July-19-London-Fireside-Chat-Blockchain-Ethereum-Olivier-Rouclox-Mark-Simpson-Paul-Ferris-Leda-Glyptis-Anish-Mohammed-Imogen-Garner-3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Hyperledger-July-19-London-Fireside-Chat-Blockchain-Ethereum-Olivier-Rouclox-Mark-Simpson-Paul-Ferris-Leda-Glyptis-Anish-Mohammed-Imogen-Garner-3.jpg\" alt=\"Hyperledger July 19 London Fireside Chat Blockchain Ethereum Olivier Rouclox Mark Simpson Paul Ferris Leda Glyptis Anish Mohammed Imogen Garner 3\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15672\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_price_of_blockchain\"><\/span>A price of blockchain?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The ideas of revenue generation, cost, and viability itself were featured in the latter stages of discussion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/mark-simpson-43494\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mark Simpson<\/a> had mentioned that \u201crevenue generating things\u2014not just reconciliation and derivatives, for example\u2014are more interesting to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/paulobjectchain\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Ferris<\/a> noted the promise of blockchain taking out billions upon billions of dollars (or pounds) in expenses, but also that blockchain&#8217;s roots in bitcoin \u201cstill scare a lot of people.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWe&#8217;ve been working to convince politicians in the UK, for example, that not all blockchain proponents were gun runners and drug lords.\u201d<\/em> \u2014Paul Ferris, ObjectChain<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Oliver also noted, quite significantly, that he&#8217;s \u201cnever seen a price for what blockchain might actually cost, so any ROI analysis at this point is nonsense. There&#8217;s nothing concrete unless you prove there&#8217;s a metric that says how much it costs.
