past two years, with the dev side being very enthusiastic about the joys of continuous development and integration, and the ops side less so.<\/p>\n<p>However, now the ops side is waking up, at least in the world of Cloud Foundry and creating new cultures of complex, multi-cloud deployments.<\/p>\n<p><P>This was one message that was clearly conveyed, at least to me, at Day 2 of the Cloud Foundry Summit 2016.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Examples\"><\/span>Examples<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><P>Allstate VP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/doug-safford-4369144\" target=\"_blank\">Doug Safford<\/a> returned from a year earlier, updating the audience on progress at taking a classically traditional company in a clasically traditional industry fully into a world of agility\u2014even what he called extreme agility.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cloud-foundry-summit-2016-santa-clara-doug-safford-allstate-v1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cloud-foundry-summit-2016-santa-clara-doug-safford-allstate-v1.jpg\" alt=\"cloud-foundry-summit-2016-santa-clara-doug-safford-allstate-v1\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14202\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><small>Doug Safford, Allstate<\/small><\/p>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p>While maintaining that \u201cyou don&#8217;t need to throw out the old way to embrace the new way,\u201d he spoke of creating a new project called CompoZed Labs and imbuing it into the fabric of the company. Despite hard-headed progress, he noted that \u201ceven when top management and engineering backs your transformation, you have to fight &#8216;the frozen middle&#8217;\u201d\u2014layers of middle management who have built their feifdoms and will resist, resist, and resist.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/bill-hilf-b554\" target=\"_blank\">Bill Hilf<\/a>, SVP and GM of HPE, talked about how customers are routinely building multi-cloud apps. \u201cThese people have very complex environments,\u201d he said, putting out a plea to end the use of \u201cprivate and public cloud,\u201d as the terms oversimplify and don&#8217;t properly describe the real world of enterprise customers.<\/p>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cloud-foundry-summit-2016-santa-clara-bill-hilf-hpe-v1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cloud-foundry-summit-2016-santa-clara-bill-hilf-hpe-v1.jpg\" alt=\"cloud-foundry-summit-2016-santa-clara-bill-hilf-hpe-v1\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14203\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><small>Bill Hilf, Hewlett Packard Enterprise<\/small><\/p>\n<p><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Engineers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/simon-johansson-444868b0\" target=\"_blank\">Simon Johansson<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/danielotte\" target=\"_blank\">Daniel Otte<\/a> from Springer Nature presented a dry, deadpan, very funny, and very effective demonstration of the pain involved in moving to a devops culture. The result of changing time frames from months to minutes was nevertheless accomplished with a lot of metaphorical blood on the floor. As one can see, the system is based on GE&#8217;s Predix and M2Mi&#8217;s IoT platform, gathering data from gateways, various devices, etc. Overall, Internet of Things is entering the Cloud Foundry arena much faster than previously. So, right before the summit, there were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.com\/article\/3070414\/internet-of-things\/we-need-cloud-foundry-for-iot.html\" target=\"_blank\">some calls<\/a> for increasing the number of IoT and Industrial Internet offerings based on Cloud Foundry. We at Altoros believe that next year we&#8217;ll see many of these solutions in action.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"APIs_service_brokers_containers_etc\"><\/span>APIs, service brokers, containers, etc.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There were many great technical sessions during the Day 2 of the summit. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/drmaximilien\">Dr. Max<\/a> of IBM gave an insight into CF-Swagger\u2014an incubation Cloud Foundry project\u2014that allows for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>describing all CF APIs (CF services: broker APIs, CF Cloud Controller: v3, UAA APIs)<\/li>\n<li>generating API docs<\/li>\n<li>generating API client and servers (stubs)<\/li>\n<li>generating test suites for API servers<\/li>\n<li>generating Test Compatibility Kits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><center><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cloud-foundry-summit-2016-michael-maximilien-ibm-v1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.altoros.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/cloud-foundry-summit-2016-michael-maximilien-ibm-v1.jpg\" alt=\"cloud-foundry-summit-2016-michael-maximilien-ibm-v1\" width=\"640\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14234\" \/><\/a><\/center><\/p>\n<p>Production-grade PostgreSQL, streamlining BOSH, containers, heterogeneous architectures, and internal transformation were all topics at hand today.
